Killeen is investing heavily in roads, infrastructure, high-speed fiber, the regional airport and revitalizing Downtown and North Killeen, creating better connectivity, new businesses and more housing options.
Healthcare and military remain huge economic drivers. AdventHealth is investing locally, while Baylor Scott & White continues expanding across Bell County. Killeen is also seeing steady growth in retail, medical, education and service businesses.
Values climbed sharply after 2020 as military moves, low inventory and Central Texas growth fueled demand. The market has since leveled out, giving buyers more negotiating power while Killeen remains one of Central Texas’ more affordable markets.
Texas has no state income tax, but buyers should plan for property taxes, homeowners insurance and summer electric bills. For military families, also budget for moves, commuting and possible HOA costs.
Start with Downtown Killeen, then explore Stillhouse or Belton Lake, grab local food, and spend an afternoon in nearby Belton or Salado. You’ll quickly see why.
Killeen is definitely car-first, with I-14, SH 195 and major roads connecting the area. Road projects are improving Chaparral, Stagecoach and Featherline, with added lanes, sidewalks and trails as South Killeen grows. We do have Hop buses!
Killeen has everything from established 1950s–80s neighborhoods to newer subdivisions with modern single-family homes. Lots vary widely, and new construction continues south while redevelopment is creating new housing options in North Killeen.
Summers are HOT and long, so pools, AC and evening activities are a way of life. Spring brings wildflowers and storms, fall is usually beautiful and mild, and winters are short but Texas weather can a surprise.
Growth. Killeen feels like it’s shifting from simply a military town into a more complete Central Texas community, with new businesses, housing, road projects and major investment bringing new life to the area.
